Voukkoset (in the beginning"Vuokkoset") is a experimental femalechoir. Members were: Niina Braun(Lehtonen), Tellervo kalleinen, Rosa Pyhälä, Laura Hilska, Mirka Raito, Sini Haapalinna & Maija Saksman. Voukkoset started as a girl-choir. Anybody who was brave enough to wear the red unsexy choircostume was wellcome to join the group. No singing skill were asked! In the beginning, on year 1998 the shows had a form of choir-consert. It was performed the whole show till the end even they made mistakes and chaos on the stage. Sometimes they had to start the song many times from the beginning again. Even they were nervous they were happy to stand on the stage as a group, do something together, be present and to sing. Alone this groupfeeling gave a great power. It was learning by doing; Voukkoset got some self-confident and started to do more variable shows. Each of them could show out her skills and personality. More different performative numbers were added to the show: dancing, competitions for the public, costume-plays, "striptease", puppet- & slide-shows, funny speaks....etc. But songs stayed always as the base of the show; it was still a choir. Voukkoset has performed in many different locations and situations: private homes, on the street, clubs, art exhibitions, festivals, bars, guided citytours, on TV. On summer 1999 we made our unforgettable "worldtour"; three weeks on the road: BERLIN:Gallerie Fehre & Club Bastard,HAMBURG:Golden Pudel Club, AUGSBURG: Club Pavian, WIEN: 7 Stern and several home-visits and consert in public spaces.
